successful people share one trait: they take control of their time

Managing your time means prioritizing your life.

You DO what is most important to YOURSELF.

If you need to make something more important in your life, you simply have to DO IT by PLANNING ON IT.

Planning [top]

what are you doing with your time NOW?

To begin though, we must first recognize how we are managing our time. The first activity will be to fill out a time table of our time being used.

The following is a link to download the form. (select save) Feel free to use and reuse this document as your life evolves...

Once you completely fill in the time table, notice where you are spending your time. Reorganize your schedule often to accommodate everything you need to do. Repeat this exercise often to re-evaluate how you are utilizing your time.

organize your time through an organizer.

Using your time wisely will take careful planning. I recommend that you use a calendar to help organize when and where your time is spent and how it is spent.

Day Planners can vary from a basic calendar by the month to a very detailed hourly listing. Depending on how valuable your time becomes, this should determine how detailed your life needs to be. Beyond purchasing a day planner, a table in MS Word could also serve useful and inexpensive. (a link to one is just below - feel free to edit and use as you please)

Implementation [top]

...making a list and checking it twice...

To do lists are never over-rated. Always have a piece of paper that is a working list of what you need to do.

Always keep your list updated:

Number items in order of importance.
Cross out items accomplished.
Add new items as needed.
Renumber items in order of importance.
Keep only ONE list and keep it updated.
Rewrite your to do list constantly.
Keep the list close to you at all times, especially next to your bed at night. (some of our best ideas come when we are dreaming)

establish priorities within an individual project or an entire course for study.

Still in the region of planning, it is a good idea to jot down all of your responsibilities when you receive them on the first day. Implementation comes once you prioritize those activities. It is important to have a timeline for longer projects.

The following link has great forms to use and has a great example to follow:

Complete these activities for huge projects or at the beginning of a course

Follow Through [top]

For whatever we schedule, we must do what we say we are going to do. Procrastination only takes us away from our goals. Remember, we may put it off, but that doesn't take away our responsibility to complete it!
