Student Success

Success does not come easy.

What does it take?

Learning Centers: If you need help, you need to be able to ask for help. Learning Centers are not only for those needing help. Studies show that you learn 90% of what you teach. "Teaching is Learned."
Note: certain tutors are assigned to assist with specific courses. Be sure to inquire with your instructors or particular learning center regarding getting the most out of your education.

Time Management: To be successful, you will need to learn to budget your time wisely.

Note Taking: Studies show that it takes more energy in the brain to retrieve information the first time, but expends less energy each time information is retrieved. This illustrates that repetition works.

Academic Integrity: When doing research, remember that books, journals and periodicals have a protocol that internet sites do not necessarily have. Always question the validity of your resources and always cite your sources.

Study Skills: For every hour in class, you should spend 2-3 hours outside of class.

Writing Center: Utilize the Writing Center. Coaches are available to help you in a variety of ways, by half-hour appointments or walk-in. The hours are posted on their website.

Computer Labs: Each major has its own lab, this includes their own policies and procedures.

Ask Questions: The only dumb question is the question not asked. We are here to help you create your future. Take advantage of the surplus of opportunities available to you.

Get Enough Sleep: The brain requires a 'reboot' in order to function to its maximum capability. Here is an article from the Washington Post on what losing sleep does to the body. (using link below, please notify us when links go bad)
