Before Getting here

• Where is Michigan Tech? It is located on the Keweenaw Peninsula in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, a peninsula within a peninsula. (funny picture)

• You should declare a major upon applying to Michigan Tech. Although declaring a major is not required for admission, it is required to be a degree-seeking student to be eligible for financial aid.

• Learn about financial aid to receive scholarships, loans, employment opportunities, etc.

• Establish who your advisor will be by contacting your department from which your major is offered.

• Your advisor has responsibilities. Be sure to ask your advisor a lot of questions to make sure you are prepared when the semester begins.

• Registering for courses can occur on-line, through BanWeb, or in person. You get your login through Student Records and Registration (phone: 906/487-2319) in the Administration Building.

• Adding and dropping courses is also accomplished either through BanWeb or at Student Records and Registration. Discuss with them or your advisor about when you can sign up for courses.

For Fall, early registration occurs around early April. For Spring, early registration is in November. For both semesters, registration usually resumes about two weeks before the semester begins. (campus calendar)

Use the student planning page for registering classes. When adding a class via BanWeb, note the CRN number can be found on the schedule of classes link.

•You can determine your housing situation before you get here. Being a non-traditional student you can choose to be off-campus or on-campus.
