Chassell Classic Ski Trails, Chassell

Second Street, Chassell
A peaceful ride, with most of the 9 km covered in trees. There are some open areas. A warming hut is located by the ice rink. Donations are needed to maintain the trails and can be placed in the box at the Heritage Center.

About 30 km of beautiful trails, with six loops including one through
the Estivant Pines. The trails are designed for traditional skiing
only and range from easy to expert in difficulty.

Maasto Hiihto/Churning Rapids Ski Trails

Hancock: Parking at Baseball Fields/Chalet (main), Parking at East Entry Loop, Parking at Christensen Road
Maasto Hiihto includes 6 loops that span more than 17 km. The Churning
Rapids trails connect to Maasto Hiihto and add another 8 km. Trails
cross Swedetown Creek at four points. A daily pass is $2.00, annual
pass is $30 for an individual ($40 for a family). Discount passes
are available with an MTU or Swedetown trail pass.

Michigan Tech Recreational Forest and Nordic Ski
Trails, Houghton

These trails have over 20km of wide, marked ski loops and 15km of
single tracks. The main loops are regularly groomed and allow skating
or traditional skiing. Ski equipment can be rented from the SDC
on MTU's campus. Trail use is free to MTU students. An MTU trail
pass is $30 for an individual ($40 for a family). Discount passes
are available with a Maasto Hiihto or Swedetown trail pass.

Swedetown Road, Calumet
The trails are the site of the annual Great Bear Chase Ski Race and Great Deer Chase Mountain Bike Race.
Five marked loops spanning 30 km with flat terrain, small rolling hills and more difficult climbs. The trails have a beautiful chalet and snack bar, plus 4.5 km of trails are lighted until 10:00 pm.

McLain State Park Trails, Hancock

McLain's trails are few and no true track is set, but the trail is smoothed as needed. Spectacular lake view scenery is the specialty of this trail. The terrain varies from flat open expanses to woods and hills.

Twin Lakes State Park Trails

These trails offer about 9 km. The 4 loops are designed for traditional skiing. While skiing the wooded trails at Twin Lakes you can enjoy a view of Lake Superior at the scenic overlook sight.
